Kidzone Summer 153

Kidzone Children’s Ministries of New Life Bible Church reached out and shared the love of Jesus with over 700 children in 2016. This year we are specifically praying for each individual child from whatever number of kids God will help us reach and teach about our Savior, Jesus.

As we prayerfully set our numerical goals, we are preparing our outreach events for the summer of 2017. Through six Vacation Bible Schools, multi-sports day camps, a worship arts camp, and a traditional, week-long Summer Camp, we are aiming to serve Christ with an active approach to children’s ministry this year.

Kidzone is committed to teaching the Bible – from the Bible—in a way kids can understand. We specifically open the Bible and read it to kids and encourage them to do the same at home. Our approach is fun, adding drama, object lessons, and excitement to engage kids and imprint the lessons on their hearts. The goal is to make them life-long learners and lovers of Christ, His Word, and His church. We especially want them to honor their parents, love their siblings, and bring light into their communities through service and kindness.

New this year, we are offering the opportunity for up to twelve high-school and college-aged interns to join Kidzone as volunteer staff. These interns will assist us in planning and implementing our summer outreach events as they share the gospel with kids. As role models, camp counselors, worship leaders, and interceders, the interns will not only lead kids to Christ, they will disciple young believers to stand firm in their faith and to share it with others. Coming from our local area and around the world, the individuals who have applied for our summer internship program come with a diverse background and a deep faith coupled with creative energy and contagious enthusiasm. The training we offer to them in children’s ministry is invaluable to their future and the talent they bring to Kidzone is unmeasurable to ours. We might even discover, disciple, and develop New Life’s next Children’s Pastor from this group. This group of young adults will take our children’s ministry to the next level.

Speaking of Next Level, the name of our youth group, the interns will partner with youth workers on a mission trip, at a music festival, and during our Sunday youth nights for junior high and high school students. In fact, a goal of our internship is to expose these students to the workings of Pastoral ministry behind the scenes and center stage, so you might even find an intern on stage leading worship or bringing the Word of God on a Sunday morning.

Budgeting for these outreach events and hosting twelve interns has a cost. That cost has been weighed carefully. The purpose of each event has been clarified with our simple mission statement for the summer “to build faith in Jesus in the hearts of kids.” That objective—building faith in kids—is worth every penny. It is an investment, not an expense. We have applied for a grant and are pursuing corporate sponsors and participating in local fundraisers to cover the costs of this summer of ministry.  But there’s a gap from where we are to where we want to be.  We need some help.

Jesus once sent Peter to catch a fish holding a coin in its mouth to meet their financial needs (Matthew 17:27). Another time, Peter caught 153 fish in his net during a miraculous, morning encounter with Jesus (John 21:11). The assumption could be made that those fish were sold to provide for the disciple’s future ministry. Lately I’ve been considering how to apply this Biblical example to our situation. Should we host a fish fry to raise funds or drop a hook in some water expecting to find gold in the mouth of our first catch? John 4:19 clarifies how to utilize this fish illustration—Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men. I shouldn’t be looking for hidden treasure in the mouth of a fish, but instead I should look for men and women, followers of Jesus, who will jump on board with the vision of Kidzone and financially support our ministry here. Which brings me to you and to a number God has given me. One, five, three. One hundred and fifty-three. It’s been on my heart and ringing in my ears throughout the past week and just this morning I understood what it meant. I’m looking for 153 people to give $153 to the cause of Kidzone—to the cause of expanding the Kingdom, saving kids, and giving the glory to God. All I’m asking for is $153. It’s not very much in the grand scope of things, but added together it will help us to host the interns, carry out the vision for our summer outreach programs, and build faith in Jesus in the hearts of kids here in our Winnebago area and everywhere we minister.

Will you be one of 153 to give $153 by May 15th? You can even pay in “three easy payments” (LOL) of $51 a month. And of course, we would take any donation you feel led to give, whether it be just a small portion of $153 or if your gift of $153 is multiplied by ten or a hundred.

If you would like to give, you have several options. Drop it in the offering at church with Kidzone on the envelope, mail it to New Life Bible Church, PO BOX 7, Winnebago, IL 61088 with Kidzone on the memo line (checks written to New Life), or go to and pay through paypal. You can set up three auto-payments if you choose to break the donation into smaller amounts. I personally ask that you don’t designate your tithe to Kidzone, but give an offering above and beyond your weekly tithe.

God is so faithful, we can’t help but worship Him. Whether you choose to donate to Kidzone or not, please join us in thanking Him for His faithfulness and praying for our summer of ministry. If you would like to learn more about our internship program, you can go to  To sign your child up for our events, watch for more information to be released on our Facebook page.

May you be richly blessed today and always. You are a blessing to me.

In Christ,

Internship Program

Kidzone, the children’s ministry of New Life Bible Church in Winnebago, IL, is pleased to offer children’s ministry internships during the summer of 2017. From June 7 to August 13, 2017, we will be hosting up to twelve interns who are volunteers in training within our children’s ministry. During this program, our interns will be learning about children’s ministry through classes and conferences then by ministering to the children of our church, our community, and our outreach events.

The internship is for high school students, college students, or other young adults who are considering their calling into ministry, whether that is in formal, full-time Pastoral ministry, volunteer service in children’s ministry, or in any ministry in or outside of the church. Each intern will be given training, experience, and time for reflection to discern their calling and find their fit in their own local church or community. Interns can be local, from the Northern Illinois area or from around the US or the world!  We hope to offer a diverse experience for our children this summer.

Throughout the summer, we will offer Vacation Bible Schools, sports camps, worship camps, summer camp, and other fun events in addition to our regular Sunday morning children’s ministry classes. The interns will have the opportunities to creatively teach Bible classes, host the sports camps, serve as camp staff, lead worship, and mentor/disciple the children we serve, along with other ministry opportunities to our church and community. Interns will also be taught to lead children to Christ and then to baptize them in the name of God-the Father, Jesus-the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Our interns will work directly under the supervision of our Children’s Ministry Director, our staff, and our volunteers in partnership with the leadership of the church and the parents of the children. All interns should love Jesus, the Word of God, the church, and children and be committed to living to honor God, His church, and His people.

This is an unpaid position, but travel expenses, housing, food, events, and other living expenses may be given if our international or other guests need assistance to participate in the program. No offer of employment is given or intended. Both parties will agree this is a volunteer position with no promises or expectations of wages and no rights which are limited to clergy. Although this is a training in an educational format, no promise of college credit is given. Each intern is expected to be available daily from June 7th to August 13th, with limited flexibility for other commitments. Days off will be scheduled. Our interns will be living in community with church families and other interns. Agreement with our policies and expectations will be a necessary part of our internship program. Those policies will be explained during the interview process and further clarified at orientation. They simply will be utilized to ensure each intern, host family, and the children we serve are protected and respected and God is honored.

To apply for our internship program, please complete the application found HERE. It should take you awhile to complete it, but don’t be overwhelmed if it seems like too much. We really want the answers to be brief and the wording to be simple–remember, we’re a children’s ministry.

Applicants should apply for the internship program by January 15, 2017. Those who have applied by that date will know by February 15, 2017, if they are being considered for our program or not. We will continue to consider applications until May 1 or until all of the slots in our program are full. International applicants can expedite the acceptance process if you need to apply for a travel VISA. Please communicate your country’s preferred timeline with us.

Thank you so much. We will be in contact with each individual who completes an application with the next steps in the process of becoming an intern at New Life Bible Church’s Kidzone Children’s Ministry. We are already praying for you! Please be in prayer for our church, our staff, our interns, and our children. God Bless!

Great children’s ministry workers are hard to come by.  Even the Bible says, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few” (Matthew 9:37). When we find a great worker at Kidzone, we value them!

Emily is one such worker.  She started volunteering in Kidzone many years ago working with our youngest students and infants.  She was just a young teen herself, but she was faithful. Faithful to be where she said she would be when she said she would be there. Faithful to care for the kids with a developing love for them and growing skills in teaching them the Word. Faithful to live her young life devoted to Christ in the best way she knows how.  Faithful to love, to learn, to grow, and to protect. She’s been faithful to our Kidzone kids and her love for them is evident in her eyes.  Their love for her is evident in their hugs & squeals when they see her.  Even our older children beg to go to her class.

Emily is turning 18 on the 18th.  It’s her golden birthday and I want to honor her.

One thing you might not know about Emily is this is her year.  I have watched her coming out of her shell and walking into her destiny.  It’s an amazing process to watch a transformation that is taking place in her heart as she prepares to graduate, enter college, and become all God has ordained her to be.  There is something deep going on inside Emily’s heart right now and I am as proud as a mama hen to have even a small, sideline role watching her grow.  God is shaping her into a better reflection of HIM and Kidzone is blessed because of it.

Because Emily is such a blessing to Kidzone, we want to bless her.

You may already know this, but Kidzone has been invited to Africa.  We’ve been asked to bring our ministry to the children in Bugembe, Uganda, and have the opportunity to visit our very own sponsored children at Watoto Children’s Village.  Emily wants to go.  We’ll minister to children, their parents, and most importantly the children’s ministry workers there who are just like us–teaching kids about Jesus in a growing, rural church.

Going to Africa is a very expensive trip and we have weighed the cost heavily.  We have prayerfully determined that God is calling us there and He will provide.  We have decided that our trip has a purpose and there’s a greater reason for us going than we could ever understand.  I know with every ounce of my heart that our trip is not only about God using us to minister to them, it’s about God using them to minister to us and about God using this trip to change our lives and our hearts. God’s going to do great things in Emily and through Emily if she is able to go. Her life, her ministry, and her perspective on all things will be changed through it.

Here’s where you come in. Kidzone Parents, Members of New Life, and other friends and family members, we want to pay for Emily’s trip and we need your help to do it.  We don’t ask for money often–so please know we make this request very hesitantly, but she’s worth it.  Will you help us send Emily to Africa on a Kidzone mission trip?

There are two things you can do: 1. Will you pray for our trip, our team, and the people we will meet?  Pray for God to use us on His behalf and for Him to provide the financial support we’ll need to go, specifically for Emily and other Kidzone staff and 2. Would  you consider supporting Emily by making a financial donation today?  Her birthday is Thursday (this Thursday) and I want to raise enough for at least the plane ticket, approximately $1,200-1,400.  I need your help.  This is a great opportunity to pool our resources and bless this lovely girl.  Would you consider donating $100, $50, $25, or any amount to help me reach this goal and help Emily take Kidzone to Africa?

This is how to donate. Go to  Enter the amount and then pull down the tab to Africa Missionary Support. Then simply complete the donation through paypal.  Everything that comes in this week will be designated for Emily’s gift.  Please give early this week, today if you can, so I know if I can proceed with giving her a gift certificate for her trip. I think you can add a note through the PayPal page if you’d like to include a note for Emily. If you prefer to give a check, you can write it to New Life and drop it off at the church by Wednesday night.

Here’s some small print details – your gift is not tax deductible because it is going to a specific person, it’s her birthday gift–BUT we won’t be giving Emily cash.  We’ll use the fund to pay her expenses.  If Emily decides she cannot go with us, the gifts cannot be returned to you or given to Emily, they will transfer to another Kidzone Mission Team member.  If we raise more than needed for her flight, we will utilize the extra for her food, lodging, supplies, gifts for our hosts, and in-country transport.  If there is excess after Emily’s expenses, we will utilize the extra for other team members from Kidzone’s staff.

Thank you so much for your support!  I will keep you posted on our progress in fundraising.  Please don’t tell Emily what we’re planning as we hope to surprise her!

If you would like to join our trip, or even bring your own young teenage child, please email me for more information about the dates, costs, and travel arrangements.
